[v12-engine] Head Gasket Information

Hope this is not a repeat of my message. Thought I had sent
it this morning but do not see it.
The cooling system of my '87 XJ-S holds 15 PSIG for two
days. Suspect a head gasket because of over heating. A
sugestion from a technician of OWens Racing Engines in
Pearland Texas had me due the following test. Removed the
fan belt from the water pump and remove the presure cap
from the cross over pipe. Sstarted a cold engine. Within 2
seconds coolant was gushing from the crossover pipe.
Conclusion is a bad head gasket. If my spelling is bad
please for give me aas I just finished of a few Margaritas :)–

The fan and water pump don’t share a belt. Water pump shares with
power steering. Sure you pulled the right belt?

PS- Be carefull not to spill your margarita into the open crossover
pipe. Heaven only knows how a drunk Jag V-12 would behave.

In these parts ‘‘Fan Belt’’ is just a generic term for any engine V
belt. The only V belt left on the car during the test was the one
for the alternator.

BTW If you start the engine with out the air pump don’t touch the
air rail, unless you want to get branded.–
