[v12-engine] High idle speed

Hi further to earlier posts re my P digital xjs . I have
now swapped the ecu and it fires up instantly.
Unfortunately to 2000 rpm which is a tad high .
I have screwed the adjuster on the eav right in - no
change . If I block the inlet to the eav on the air filter
back box with screwed up paper the idle drops right down -
maybe even too low. This suggests to me there are no air
leaks elsewhere ?
That is obviously not an ideal solution so any ideas how
to get the idle down properly ?
I’ve had the eav off and it had been stuck but after a bit
of fiddling it seemed to move properly in a pan of boiling
water.
I’m going to get this blessed car running one way or the
other !!
Thanks in advance

Scott,

Check also the Extra Air Valve, mounted at the right hand
Air Filter.
If you are absolutely sure that you have no other air leaks,
most probably the bulb in your Auxiliary Air Valve has
become ‘‘lazy’’ and it doesn’t close the air opening as much
as it should.
You could try to tap and move the top part of the AAV body
further in so that the port is fully closed at around 70
Celsius.

There is plenty of info in the archives and detailed repair
instructions in Kirby’s book.

Best,

Aristides,
Many thanks . Yes think it’s the aav . Went out this on
and it started up straight away to 2000rpm . When warmed
up it dropped to 1000 with the adjuster screwed right in .
That would maybe agree with your thoughts of it being lazy
. I will take it off tomorrow and see if I can adjust its
operation.
Here’s hoping and thanks again

Hi
Just a wee update . Took off the aav and found the piston
was low . I squeezed the bulb and brought it up to 70mm .
Refitted it and the car runs an absolute treat  . It got
its first wee run in about 4 years . Few things to do
still but well happy–
