Ive checked that the temperature gauge sensor and that is working
fine, replaced the thermostat and when the car is left on tickover
and should be getting warm the gauge is still well below N for
normal, the flow of water round the system seems to be ok, but also
the heater blower in the car isn’t getting warm. help needed as I’ve
ran out of theories. Should the thermostat have a gasket or an
o-ring to seal it in?

That confirms that the gauge is connected to the sensor,
but not that the gauge is reading correctly. You need to
measure the resistance of the sensor and compare it to
what it is supposed to be. Since you engine is quite different from
mine I can’t tell you what that is. Perhaps someone her with a 4.0
can help.
i heated the sensor up with a hot air gun and the reader in the
dash went to normal. Ill have ago with your suggestion
cheers

Most of us with V12s seem to be running 82C. Don’t
know if that’s right for a 4.0, but I expect so.
Perhaps you should try to get some kind of maintenance
manual. I don’t know if the CD versions available
from www.jdht.com cover the 4.0, but I expect so.
