[v12-engine] Re: Transmission

Thanx, I have found out what the other wire is suposed to go to. There is a
pressure switch on the rear of the transmission that goes to the solonoid
under the throttle pedstal. It is suposed to cause a slight up shift
between 30 and 40 mph. It has something to do with emissions. On my
transmission, the hole for the switch is blanked off with a bolt. I don’t
know if I am going to get the switch or not. Hmm… Well, I do hav the
transmission out, and it has been rebuilt for $480. Not I am waiting for my
torque converter to be rebuilt so I can put the transmission back in, adjust
the shift points and see how it is suposed to really drive with out any
slipping and a kick down and third gear. The person that rebuilt found a
lot of black gunk in the oil pan and a valve was stuck. I am also waiting
on brake pads, a few ball joints, and the ac evaporator. How ever, I lost
the two pieces of trim under the rear windows. I took them out so the body
shop could put the weather stripping in, and I don’t know where I put them.
So, while I am waiting fo rthe parts and attempting to find the other parts,
I am fixing little things like holes in the air box that weren’t covered up,
a gas leak at the gas pump (still trying to stop the leak) and a few lose
vacuum hoses.

I crawled under my car and took a look in the Jaguar Parts Catalogue.

A Green wire with a white stripe is connected to the gearbox. The green
wire
with an orange stripe is cut off a few inches short.

The book says that the kickdown solenoid switch has a green input wire and
a
green with a white stripe output wire. Guess that figures!

Looks like mine is configured the same way as yours!

I am not sure what year car you have, but if it is a 1973-75 Federal spec
carburetted engine, the pressure switch controlled a vacuum solenoid which
applied manifold vacuum to the vacuum retard, effectively holding the
ignition at full retard below 30MPH or thereabouts.

Does your car still have the solenoid and associated plumbing? I would not
personally reinstate that system, as it does not help keeping the engine
cool, and probably reduces performance and fuel economy.
