[v12-engine] Special Tool for Head Nuts

In the Book, Craig Sawyers reports on a socket he modified to fit
onto the 11/16" hex domed 7/16" head nuts underneath the edge of the
tappet block:

“I ended up getting a friend with a lathe to turn a shoulder on a
standard socket so that it would snug under the tappet block. Worked
a treat. The part around the socket, 0.935” diameter (ie, as
supplied) and 0.7" to the turned shoulder. The turned down part
(where the 3/8" drive fits) is 0.67" diameter and 0.49" long from the
shoulder to the top."

I’d like to provide some illustrations for the web page. Can anyone
provide any of the following?

– a picture of such a socket

– a picture of the difficult-to-get-at nut in question.

– a picture of the socket in place on the nut.

Thanks!

In reply to a message from Kirbert sent Tue 8 Aug 2006:

Kirby:

That was not my reply, but I did make one myself by grinding down
the shoulder of a socket. Not a pretty or precision job, but
effective. Let me know if you are interested.

If I recall correctly, I ground both ends, one to help it slip on
and the drive end to clear the tappet block.
This was some time ago.

I will poke around to see if I still have it.
