In an s-mail regarding a Canadian-spec '82, the owner claimed a
significant performance improvement from “fitting an English
distributor with a better advance curve.” And this was after having
already addressed the seized centrifugal advance situation, so that
isn’t what made the difference.
I wasn’t even aware the Canadian and UK distributors were different.

I thought I could help here, because my parts book is an '82 version.
However, the distributor data is so inconsistent it is simply not worth
the paper it is printed on, so I can’t help after all.

The UK spec distributor, circa 1984, has a Lucas PN of 41879B. The number
is stamped on the LHS of the distributor body near the rear, and with skill
may be read using a dentist’s mirror.
I cheated and read the number from the spare distributor I bought last month
for 40.
The advance was a little gummy, the thingy intact, but the vacuum capsule is
ruptured. Any suggestions on a good place in the UK to buy a Lucas advance
capsule?
