I’ve tried both methods, lifting engine and Transmission
with ‘‘SUV’’ rated engine lift - went well until I pushed the
car over the lip of concrete at the end of the garage - and
it took off down hill…

And 2nd option -the donor engine came out the way it went in
Getting to the top bolts on the gearbox (auto) is a pain -
I’d pull the two by choice, and do it through the top side -
Only plan the extraction a bit better ie: Level floor!–

Yes the 480E is a lot bigger (not sure on weight) - the sight
of a friend belting the crap out of the transmission tunnel
with a lump hammer to retro fit one was interesting - it did
fit eventually…
Sloping Driveways - saved as the last bit is up hill -
otherwise had to introduce myself to the neighbors - doesn’t
go well with a Jag in their living room…–

Your three-speed auto is a lot smaller/lighter than the
GL480E box used on the 6.0L cars.
Sloping driveways - gotta love 'em huh?

I Hired the engine lift - and thankfully the guy at the
counter had the foresight to ask what the car was - he said he
would ONLY hire my the SUV lifter - which was much bigger than
the standard car unit. It had the load ratings on the boom
holes - even the longest arm hole was 1 ton rated.–
