[v12-engine] xjs 6 litre

I reported yesterday that I saw a 1991 XJS in my mechanic’s shop with a 6
litre engine, and very pretty manifolds. This report spawned numerous
comments, including a number saying that it was not a 6 litre engine, but a
5.3, probably with different manifolds. Well, I was wrong. I examined the
same car again today, and spoke with my mechanic about it (he is replacing
the heater core). The car is not a 1991, but a 92 car, and YES, it has the
6.0 litre engine, which my mehcanic verifies was available in Canada, and
not in the US during that period. More differences between Canadian and US
cars. One other very noticeable difference: the cruise control is totally
different from that used on the 5.3 car. My 92 V12 Vanden Plas engine is the
5.3 and looks virtually identical to that used in previous Series III V12
cars, including the cruise control.

Well, I find that extremely doubtful. The entire V12 assembly line
was shut down for most of 1993 to retool for making the 6.0 that
appeared in late '93. The 6.0 from then on was a different animal.
The 6.0’s that appeared BEFORE '93 were specials, such as the TWR and
XJR-S. Jaguar would not have been making 6.0’s and 5.3’s
simultaneously on the main assembly line.
