Swollen water hoses in XK8 4.2 V8 2003 model. Engine runs, hoses get too hard and engine stops running. Please help. I’m based in Johannesburg, South Africa. The temperature gauge not working
When water, or any other hoses swell up they need to be replaced.

When it stops working does the engine management light come on? Is it overheating? Check your water and oil levels. I’d trace why your temp gauge isn’t working. Is it completely dead or reading erratically? It may be the sensor, lead, insufficient coolant or stuck thermostat. The early water pumps were plastic and the impeller disintegrated. Not sure what was fitted to your model but is fairly easy to take it off and check. If you’re coolant is low there are places known to leak such as the hoses under the intake manifold which you can’t see, the thermostat tower base gasket and the plastic coolant reservoir cracks.
