What and Why - 'Interesting tab in rear wheel well

We are progressing well with restoring the 70FHC. Clearly, the image is of a work in progress but the question is what is the purpose of this tab (and hole) which is located in the inside back corner of (both side’s) wheel well?

I have 3 very original 1970 Etypes, 2 - DHCs and 1 - FHC, none of them have that tab on them. Maybe installed by PO?

Denis - No, it is also on the other Es in the shop and on many replacement panels (if that is any kind of reference). Finally, you can see it on a few online pics if you google images.

Jerry - Well, that is a better guess than any I’ve heard so far.

Eventually, I’ll ask the local JCNA judges and they will likely have an answer.

thanks

No sure I’m exactly clear where the tab is (different photo would help) but I would reach out to Chuck at monocoque’s…

Mike, So I looked closer at my cars and it appears the factory cut it off through the center of the hole and crudely folded it over the horizontal lip of the rear panel. It’s the same on all 3 of my cars all of which are very original in that area.

I’m having trouble visualizing exactly where this tab is in the wheel well.

You can see it in this pic of a new lower rear panel. It’s located behind the rear wheel.
