Whats missing on this S1 timing cover?

Now the engine is out, I noticed this piece with a broken edge on the timing plate cover. What is it?

could it be the fan belt tensioner pulley bracket?

Definitely tensioner. Never seen one busted like that. Must have caused quite the kaboom when it cut loose. It’s not absolutely necessary but is nice to have when functioning properly. It gives a little more leeway with belt length.

I’ve got one you can have for shipping costs if interested. Pulley spins freely but a little noisy I think, I’ve read here that folks have replaced the bearing but not sure how its done or if it even needs it.

Thats a kind offer Paul. I didn’t realize there was a belt tensioner. Where are you based Paul?
