When did XJ-S depart from single wire 02 sensors?

(JLo) #1

Hi Gents,
I bought an 84’ XJ-S last week to play around with as a project and I removed the single wire 02 sensors.
When searching for replacement I noticed many references calling for the dual wire setup w heating element.
Was 84’ a crossover year for 02 Sensors?
Thanks in advance

I wanna say 1986-87 is when the change was made

FWIW My 1988 XJS (Feb '87 build date) had the three wire sensor

For the Series III XJ6 the change was made circa August 1986

Cheers

Thanks Doug. I didn’t realize it was that late. I appreciate it!

Three wire, actually. The heating element is not grounded internally; there are two leads for it. Connect either one to switched 12V, ground the other.

My '83 had single-wire sensors.

It’s worthwhile to upgrade to the 3-wire.
