Looking for a bit more V8 from my 1999XJR any thoughts on which mufflers to replace with straight pipes?
I have already taken the rear muffler off the r/h side and could hardly notice a difference in sound between the open pipe and the tail pipe on the l/h side so I replaced it.
I suspect that you’ll lose power, by doing that: manufacturers spend millions tuning street exhaust systems to match the performance envelope of street engine management controls.
Just dropping in a straight pipe on a modern car really only makes sense if you want more sound.
Looking for sound, cars fast enough for me
Think people usually remove the middle boxes
As Andy says, you should straight-through the centre section. But the difference will still not be night and day…
Thanks guys, will look into it.
When I bought my XJR6 it had cherry bombs in place of the standard rear mufflers. It wasn’t noticeable when cruising but when accelerating it made a horrible and very loud booming noise. So it’s back to standard mufflers for me.
