Who knows their license plates?

Not legal but I run without a front license plate in the UK.

This is it when I used to have a stick on one. I prefer without.

Isn’t that pretty risky these days, with most ANPR systems and speed cameras reading the front plate?
I actually think it looks a bit plain without the number…

£100 fine and no points if they can be bothered pulling you

INF104 from DVLA says up to £1000, and possible withdrawal of plate (unlikely in this situation, I’d have thought) for ‘improper display’ - I can’t find any mention of complete absence of plate.
These days I’d have thought they’d be getting a lot tougher on this because of the ANPR systems - ULEZ zones, congestion charges, Dartford crossing and others, average speed cameras etc. - all photographed from the front. We must be the most photographed nation on the planet.

I have bought a few plate from here.

There. You read it here first. :sunglasses:

My mate got nicked as he had a square plate on the front of his Range Rover. Seems older generation specs cameras cannot read a square plate with two lines.

Incidentally Ace Plates are still in business as this company has the rights to the name and owns the moulds: http://www.acepeakplates.com/

Jaguar dealers fitted Bluemels plates as the Factory had an agreement with them.

Typically Ace plates were fitted to Rolls-Royce/Bentley because of their cost. In 1954 a set of Ace plates cost 5 Guineas (about £100 today) whereas even by 1967 Bluemels only cost £3.7.6

Annoyingly, French automatic cameras on country roads can read ACE digits on black backgrounds, and even with only 1 number and 3 letters they can identify the vehicle and fine you via the DVLA records for speeding.
Ask me how I know…
