Wild readings from the trip computer

My trip computer is currently giving crazy readings – when the car is coasting going down a hill with no throttle, it’s showing zero miles per gallon in the instantaneous setting.

In the average setting, it’s under 12MPG which is way below normal.

Does anyone know from what sensor the MPG function gets its data? Intake manifold?

That’s not correct, when the car is moving and the throttle is closed then the ECU closes the injectors, then it should read <> 99 mpg fuel consumption on over run.
As far as the lousy fuel economy, no idea without more information.
I believe the MPG is calculated from injector open time/RPM/speed

Open for correction there.
