Winsdhield wiper problem

I have a 1997 XJ6 with a wiper problem. Sometimes when turning on the ignition the wipers swipe ONE TIME and then do not move. Moving the wiper switch lever does nothing. I read the relay may be bad so tried to get it out and couldn’t, I didn’t force it as I didn’t want to break anything. What to do? Which relay is correct? Pull up or back on the relay?

I don’t have a manual for the car, does Jaglovers have one on line? Suggestions? This is my first Jag for 20 years. All this new technology! Relays! modules! Money!

with the ignition on and wiper switch on, and motor not working you could try getting a screw driver handle and tapping the top of the relay to see if the wiper suddenly starts. This would prove your in the correct area.

THere are usually 2 relays for wipers ,you could also try swapping them

Andyk is correct. There are 2 relays, one for on/off, the other for low/high.

That is how I used to quickly diagnose the wiper faults on the X300.

Swap and then replace the faulty one!!

Thanks for the reply but which are the relays? Online manual in Jaglovers?

Seem to remember that this is caused by the nut holding the wiper arm down on the taper being loose, check that and see.
