There are two wires coming out of the rear glass on my MK2. There appears to be only one bullet connector coming from the cabin of the car. Looking at my manual it appears that one of the wires coming from the glass goes to ground and the other plugs into the cars’ pigtail, which is a hot circuit. I don’t want to blow up the demister.

Sorry but what is the question?
The screen element is isolated from the body by the rubber, so there’s no risk of the “wrong” side shorting to earth.
Connect one wire from the screen to earth, and the other to the feed from the HRW relay/switch.
Andrew saw into my question;
as I did not know what to do with the second wire from the window. I found an auxiliary wiring diagram and Andrew is indeed correct in that the wire goes to ground. I will use a self tapping sharp piercing style screw to attach the window wire to the underside of the parcel shelf.Holiday wishes to all.
