[x-type] dealerships

I’m interested in whether anyone else has experienced my
recent problem.
I have a 2003 x-type. 2 years(2014) ago the dealership
where we purchased it decided to sell. It was sold to a
Land Rover dealership. That year I had service with them -
my dh and I had stayed getting service from our original
dealership because we always received excellent service.
In 2015 I was told that they would no longer service cars

10 yrs old and to try another Jaguar dealer or an
independent.
I chose an independent service provider as other dealers
were quite a few miles away.
This year a problem recently occurred that my current
mechanic felt would be best be done by a dealer. He called
2 (the one that bought my original and another) and both
were not nice at all. Would not see my car nor order parts.
But the 3rd one that he called was very helpful and is
going to repair my car this wk - they had to order parts.
My mechanic, myself, as well as the dealer that is working
with me were very taken aback by the callous treatment we
received.
Has anyone else ever encountered this ? Sorry this is long.

Thank you–
Gina

While I normally use an excellent independent Jag
specialist; I have not had any trouble taking my 18 year
old XK8 to the Jag dealer in Calgary, Canada. They are
always eager to charge me lots of money to fix my car or
sell me parts.–

I think the issue with some dealers not wanting to service cars more than 10
years old is that the 10 year period is the limit during which manufacturers
assure supply of parts (all manufacturers). Therefore the dealers (who are
supposed to obtain and fit parts only supplied by the OEM manufacturer) are
reluctant.
In the case of a car like the X-Type which remained pretty stable in terms
of components over its 2001-2009 life, the dealers that refuse to service
them are being a bit silly because parts should still be available for the
next few years (that is till 2018-19 at least, and probably after that).
My dealer in Victoria also is happy to service “modern” Jaguars but I doubt
that they would want to deal with a 1962 E-Type…

Thanks Gregory for your answer.

I did get the repair done on my x-type. I did ask the service manager that
had willingly
agreed to work with with me about the parts issue. He told me that at this
time they do not see
any problem with parts for the x-type and that the cars themselves are very
plentiful and that
he expects to have parts available for many years to come.

He did say though that they are now beginning to have problems obtaining
parts for early 1990’s Jaguars.
