[x-type] exhaust smoke

I have noticed that when the weather is cold and damp the exhaust
of my xtype 2.5 V6 petrol smokes nearly all the time I am driving.I
have been told this is normal for this model and engine, can anyone
confirm this as I keep thinking the worst–

In those conditions it is normal for just about any engine. If your oil is
clear and your coolant is clear, there is no problem.

…check your PCV valve. …I had the same problem with a
lot of withe smoke when starting the car every time, so
that the oil is consumed. I change the old PCV valve for a
new one and problem solved, it looks like the old PCV could
not close completely and some oil could get to the intake
and then being burned. I hope this help.

What you have to determine is : Is it smoke (Not good - Carlos’
advice applies) or steam (Not usually a problem if caused by cold
weather - Gregory’s advice applies)–

Hi,

 Am the PROUD owner of a 2002 JAG-X (2.5 V6 Gasoline) and

it ‘‘steams’’ in cold and moist weather (about all winter here in
Pennsylvania, USA). Unlike most autos when warm (no steam from
exhaust) our X-Type continues to emit steam (white in color)
continually (even after a long drive at hight speed). If the smoke
is ‘‘blue’’ you may have a problem with the PVC as discussed by
another responder. I (like you) have wondered for 6 years…still
purrs like she should…normal to me!–
