[x-type] Jaguar colours

Why the past tense? Jaguar colours remain among the most complex and
beautiful. The Emerald polychromatic on my wife’s X-Type takes my breath
away: it is a metallic that shifts from deep blue to green as the light
and angles change. Stunning, or “gorgeous” as Jaguar’s advertising has
it. The same can be said for the Anthracite Mica on my own X-Type, or
the Black Cherry Mica on my 1992 V12 which goes from black to deep
aubergine. Even Jaguar Black as used in the Series III has undertones of
blue and yellow in sunlight.
In colours as in everything else, Jaguars are all about emotion, as well
as motion. Perhaps “emotion in motion”. Now, wouldn’t that be a better
advertising catch-phrase than “Gorgeous”?

Many of Jaguar’s colours loved to ‘‘play’’ with light and sunshine.
I think one of the things that makes our cars so unique has to be
the ‘‘interplay’’ between that and the multiple compound curves that
provide so many shapes and viewing angles for this to be seen and
noticed.

There are a lot of pretty colors out there. My favorites are
usually on imports. Seldom find a color on a Ford or Chevy that I
really like. I don’t particularly like colors that change with the
sunlight. I had an Explorer that was blue in the sunlight and
green in the shade. It looked like it’d been repainted with
mismatched paint. Open a door and the door was blue and the fender
was green. To me, that’s just aweful.

Probably the reason I prefer black or dark green on most vehicles.
My wife’s jag is BRG. Looks black in the shade and green in the
sunlight; but it’s still pretty. My Escape is GoldAshe. A color I
really like as it stays the same whether in the sun or shade and
whether dirty or clean. Can’t hardly tell well it’s dirty as it
looks good all the time. Usual for me to like a lighter color; but
that’s an exception.–

Emotion in Motion, great lead copy for an ad.
My Jag is BRG metalic. THE color for British racing cars in the
past. Love the shine… (when its clean)… beige interior, great
combination. The beige gives it a roomier effect.

BTW, was reading an article about how color has influence on second
hand price of cars. As much as 15%, at least in Switzerland. Top
color is silver metalic, worst color is blue.–

I’d just been on Jaguar’s web site before getting up to date with
this forum. I was looking to see if the walnut veneer is still
limited to the Sovereign - which, sadly, it is! - but I also
noticed that the only green now on offer is called Emerald Fire. No
more metallic Jag Racing Green or non metallic BRG!–

My '03 is in the discontinued Phoenix Red. It is my third
red car in a row. People always say that the Highway Patrol
gives red cars greater scrutiny, but so far, that hasn’t been
the case (knock on wood). Besides the fact that I like red,
the car is highly visible to other drivers. Those ubiquitous
silver cars out there all but disappear on an overcast day.
And, it looks HOT…!–

Thanks Suggs. I get a lot of favorable comments from other
X-Type owners. There seems to be one other red one in the
New York City area and I see it occasionally on the West Side
highway. We always wave or otherwise acknowledge each other
when we meet.–
