[x-type] The X-type gets great highway mileage for an AWD vehicle!

A couple days ago, my wife and I took a little overnight
trip from our house to Valdez, Alaska. We live about an hour
north of Anchorage. We drove 260 miles there, and the 260
miles back home the next day. The scenery was beautiful as
usual. We got 30.9 mpg on day one, and 30 mpg the next day.
Pretty impressive for an AWD vehicle with an automatic
transmission. I have the 2.5 litre, gasoline version. I just
bought a set of Michelin studless snow tires for it last
week. They are nice and quiet. I will be testing them in the
snow soon. They did well in the rain and slush in the
mountains on the way to Valdez.–

Great cars. The automatic with AWD does soak up some power - the manual AWD
version feels much “freer” ( and quieter; I have both) and get better fuel
consumption figures, but both versions are excellent cars.

I’ve hit 37.5 mpg-but only in hot weather on the highway.–

I regularly got over 30mpg on a long run in my 3.0. However
on this side of the pond I mainly pootled from village to
village in traffic jams where the mileage went down to
22/23. I must admit though, my 4.2 XK8 has similar mpg which
says a lot for the relative efficiency of the Jag V8’s.–
