[x-type] X Type 2001 - Problem with parking sensor

I have a Jag X Type 2001, there is a problem with the
factory fitted parking rear sensor.

As you know it should beep and get louder as you get closer
object you are parking by.

But my one just gives a loud continual beep.

My local garage suggested renewing harness with I have
replaced but this hasn’t made any difference.

Has anyone out there got any suggestions what is wrong and
how I can fix it.

Cheers.

The first step would be to unplug the 4 sensors. If one of
the sensors is faulty and not the main electronics then the
solid beep should stop.

If this happens then plug the sensors back in one at a time
and see which one is faulty.

Don’t forget to park the car somewhere with no obstructions
to the rear and also stand out of the way yourself so as not
to give a false positive.–

Here is a more scientific way of checking each sensor:

  1. Use a multi-meter to read the resistance across the pins
    (See below)
  2. Compare the readings from each sensor and look for one
    that gives different readings.

Sensor Pin configuration.

…2

3…1

Resistance Readings.
Red on pin 1 and Black on pin 2 1888 Ohms
Red on pin 3 and Black on pin 2 1888 Ohms
Red on pin 2 and Black on pin 3 climbs to 1992 Ohms then
goes to zero.

A faulty sensor would probably not read across pin1 and pin 2.–
