Hi Everybody
My 2.5 SE was recently written off in a crash, the other guy went
to sleep at the wheel !! as my X type was less than a year old it
is being replaced with a new model. I was never impressed with the
original dipped beam bulbs and even after replacing with phillips
blue vision still not really adequate. I have taken this
opportunity to upgrade to zenons as my last car (Audi TT) was
fitted with zenons and I thought they were very efficient.
Has anybody any comments on zenons against standard dipped beam ?–

I find the Xenons give a very even light and are very good at
picking up objects (such as pedestrian’s feet) along the verge.
Also the cutoff is very sharp, so there is not much glare in fog.
Only the dipped beam on the X-type is Xenon, but they are still
well worth it especially as part of a package.
Before I specified them, I checked on the BMW forum (ex-3-series
owner!) and the only people who didn’t rave about them were those
who lived in cities. My only criticism is the LH/RH adjustment is
badly engineered - I am not convinced mine have gone back properly
after a recent German trip, even though the dealer assures me they
are OK.

Mine has Zenons and I’ve always been very pleased with them, only
problem experienced early on was that the auto-leveling adjustment
was set slightly too high and upset some oncoming drivers so took
the car back to dealer and they adjusted it down, great ever since.
I do lots of country road driving and Zenons are excellent for such
driving.
PS: Just back from 1k mile trip around Cornwall and car remains a
real pleasure to drive both at speed and in traffic queues!
