X300 3.2litre AJ16, Opinions please

Hi Guys,

I noticed Bill’s note the other day that he wasn’t too impressed with
the 3.2L version of the V8 - what’s the consensus regarding the 6
cylinder 3.2 ? The early X300’s (94/95) are just starting to enter my
affordable price range, but the 3.2 is a LOT cheaper than the 4L. It
seems to be depreciating considerably faster. Worth buying or not ? FYI
just to shock you about Aussie prices - the 3.2 '94 XJ6 sport is
$60,000(40K US) a 94 4L with 27,000km on the clock is $90,000(60K US).
NB those would be '95 MY cars in the US I guess.

John,

Unlike the trouble-prone 2.9Ls, the 3.2s are excellent engines. Since
we dont have them in America, I cant personally comment.

However, it has always been my understanding that the 3.2 is slower, but
uses only fractionally less fuel. If this is the case, why buy the
thing? (NO Offense meant to anyone with a 3.2L)

I mean, when you purchase a Jaguar, even if fuel is the equivalent of
$1/L where you live, you surely can;t expect good fuel economy can you?

Although, for what they are, XJ40s are quite efficient.

IMHO, If you’re going for a Jag, you’re “going for broke”. You’re
considering buying a Legendary motorcar… perhaps the only subexotic new
car that will turn heads and elicit compliemts from people on Park
Avenue. So why not go all the way and get the big-ass engine?

Just my 2pence…

That pricing is SCARY! Wow… I’ve decided to not get the XJ8
(Price… cant afford it) and am looking to buy a 1996 Vanden Plas.

Im planning on spending about $30-34K for this car… Around here a 94
XJ6 sells for right around $20K.

Bill (Very thankful that he can just barely afford the VDP… )
