[x300] 95 XJ6 Remote Question

I was told by that Jaguar Dealership that the Security Module in the trunk
SHOULD also have the FCC#s,( including frequency ) somewhere on the
module…
(but I have not checked! - It’s tooo damn cold right now !).
When I called they did ask for my Year, Model, and VIN… they attempted to
look this up via their Database …No Luck! (95XJR)…
SO I believe that this info may actually be available for some vehicles -
call your Local Jag Dealership (our ‘newest’ local Jaguar dealership in
Novi, Michigan has always been absolutely fantastic with help via telephone,
or in person at the Parts Department ! )

In general, for Vehicle Keyless Entry:

"About Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Systems
Over 70% of the vehicles made today come with a remote keyless entry (RKE)
system either standard or as an option. RKE systems are also a high volume
after-market accessory. Most remote keyless entry systems alarm the vehicle
against theft and lock and unlock the doors and trunk. Some include remote
start and car finder functions.

Remote keyless systems consist of a key fob transmitter and a receiver
inside the vehicle.

They most commonly use a frequency of 315MHz in the U.S. and Japan, and
433.92MHz in Europe. Europe has also opened up the 868MHz band to
accommodate the growing demand for remote keyless entry systems.

"

That being said , you should note that Keyless Entry systems are not
necessarily ‘FCC’ licensed, nor compliant with any “convention”.
As low power devices, and as in-vehicle systems, I believe that they are
exempt from the FCC Rules …

I think that 302 Mhz as/is another common frequency used in the US for
various Keyless Systems…

I know that some of us that have the older Jaguars (X300 XJ6/XJR etc…until
97 ) may find that we have the RdW frequency (433 MHz)

  • In fact, I have seen posts in this Forum that indicate this is a fact !

As an aside - for any later model VW owners w/Keyless Entry!:
For VW, (…and, I know because my Company manufactured both the FOB and
Comfort Module (ZM/ZV Module) )
The Frequency was region dependent, just as expected from the above
overview!
Where the RdW Systems (RdW = Rest der Welt - or, translated, Rest of the
World) were always 433.+ Mhz …
Whereas the NAR (North American Region) Systems 315.+ MHz - at least from
the late 90s to Now !
(…and I am not looking through all my old Specifications for the “exact”
frequencies…If someone does own a VW, and is interested in “reasonable”
information regarding the Key FOBs or the ZM/ZV Modules I will see what I
can do to accommodate your request - as long as you don’t ask for
“proprietary” information!)

Maybe this is just “More Useless info” … But just thought I’d pass it
on -

If someone does in fact locate their System Frequency on their Security
Module PLEASE let the Forum know !!! (I thin kit would be helpful -
Especially for us “early X300” Owners !)

Thanks,
George Ford

In reply to a message from KMan sent Wed 2 Feb 2005:

If this is any help, I have a mid-to-late 95 number 750732 made in
June '95. Mine is the 315 Mhz, but I understand that at some point
pretty soon after this serial number the remotes went to 433 Mhz.

I’m certainly no authority on this, and there may even have been
overlap. Just thought I would ‘‘throw out’’ the VIN# and Freq. for
reference.

The original message included these comments:

module. Or is there a way to look this up by the VIN number?
