[x300] '98 VDP beeps 5 times every minute

have a '98 Vanden Plas that beeps on startup 5 times, every
minute, for 3-4 minutes. Goes away and then sometimes comes
back during the drive. Already tried plugging in both front
seat belts. Tone sounds like it is coming from the middle of
the dash. Any ideas?–

Next time it happens, look at the display on your head unit. It
may be the ‘‘clean aerial’’ reminder.–

Look at the instruments when you start the car and see if
the Airbag telltale lights up. If you don’t see that lamp,
you are probably hearing the Airbag Module. [also called a
Single Point Sensor] It is designed to sound off with beeps
if the warning lamp fails. It can’t warn of an Airbag
failure with a burned out bulb, so it uses that method to
get attention.–
