[x300] Alarm System causes car to go "dead"

Recently, I’ve had an intermiten problem involving the
alarm/security system. Occasionally when attempting to start the
car, I’m greeted with a ‘‘dead’’ electrical system - no dash lights,
no interior lights and NO STARTING.

The only evidence of electricity is the red alarm light flashing on
the center console. Even the key fob is rendered useless after
attempting to start the car. The fob then won’t lock or unlock the
car, unlock the trunk, and the headlight button won’t activate.

I called Jaguar roadside assistance and they said to try
locking/unlocking the driver door manually, three times, in an
attempt to reactivate (or deactivate) the alarm. Even this did
nothing!

Removing the negative battery cable, waiting a few minutes and
reinstalling the cable seems to reactivate the system; the key fob
works normally and the car starts!

It doesn’t seem to matter wether the car was locked or unlocked
prior to entering it or attempting to start it. Often the key fob
works when entering the car, then when I attempt to start the car;
it’s dead.

The car is at the dealer now but they seems to be baffled too.
Unfortunately, because disconnecting the battery is the only known
cure, any codes which might have been present are now erased!

Does anyone have an experience with this problem?–

I’ve experienced this with my '99 XJR. The only difference is I do have dash
lights and interior lights, but everything else is exactly as you described.
FOB’s don’t work, locks don’t work, etc. The only thing that worked was to
disconnect the battery. Twice in the last 2 years. Dealer is stumped.>From: “Ken Mabarak” kjmphx@cox.net
