[x300] Car alarm goes off every 5-10 minutes

Just what the headline says. It’s annoying the &%^$ out of
the neighborhood and I can’t figure it out. We have to leave
the car unlocked to get it to stay quiet.

Anyone have any ideas? Dying battery, perhaps? The car still
starts up.–

UPDATE - Fixed, I hope.

I took the car to have the battery checked and it came up
12.7 volts, but the machine said ‘‘marginal battery.’’ I’m
usually skeptical of those things because it seems like a
ploy to get you to buy a battery, but this one was 4 years
old so I decided to replace it anyway.

That was four hours ago, and so far, nothing more from the
alarm. The car also seemed to run a little better at low
RPM. I was also lucky to find the battery locally for $83.

Also, thanks to the member who sent me a private response; I
tried to respond to you but the email bounced back.

Mark this down as yet another undiagnosable problem solved
by a new battery. These cars seem hyper-sensitive to this
issue. The cheap way to test is to fully charge the battery
by leaving the suspect on trickle charge.I did this with
mine and the symptoms vanished. But there was at least one
other problem - a parasitic drain. If you have such a
problem, the new battery may mask this for a while but
eventually you’ll have to solve the parasitic drain issue.
Fortunately there is lots in the archives to help you.–
