[x300] Car keeps stopping

I had the second stop in two days and what is wired is in the same
spot. Exiting from the freeway and stopping at the first stop light.
Appears the trans light and then the check engine light
(P1775&P0724). I’m keeping my reader in the car for this
situations, otherwise I wouldn’t know this codes. After restart
it’s all OK.
I searched the forum, but did not find anything that would help.
The only thing I found(motorcarsltd forum)that it could be from
cracked coils(dealer told to somebody). I have five of them cracked.
Any help is welcomed.–

well, the 1775 is the tcm or its connections, check under the R
dash for loose or bad connections, the other one I cant find in the
book you might have to go to jag and have them hook it up to the
world diagnostic mashine. pajtas–

Thanks Pajtas. The trans connector it was checked last week and it
seemed clean. It was used dielectric grease prior assembly. Nothing
like this happened before. Like two times entered in limp mode(in
winter time when is humid) with no codes and like three times had
misfire from the coils(check engine light for a blink with no
codes). I’m not sure what I have to check under the dash?–

I’ve had a similar problem going on for the past two years and have
yet to find a complete soloution. I tried the coil approach,
bought two new ones and rotated them through without curing the
problem. I replaced the crank sensor and things seemed better for
awhile, but then the stalling began to reoccur more frequently.
The two most likely next stops for me, based on what I’ve read,
will be the stepper motor (which can take anything from a good
cleaning to full replacement), then the throttle position sensor.
Good luck!

the stepper motor wont have nothing to do with stalling, how does
it stall at speed or when you are sitting at a light? if any
elctronic component is at foult the check engine light will come
on, so could have mechanical componant problems. like fuel pressure
reg, or fuel filteror fuel pump relayor any of 4 relays for ign.or
vacuum leaks. pajtas–

The first task in an idle stalling situation where the high speed
is okay is to verify that the throttle body is clean. The idle air
control motor and its passage is a potential culprit. If it is
sticking, it will let the engine stall when stopping after a long
run, it is stuck shut when the engine needs it to open when the
throttle plate closes. A way of suspecting the sticking IAC is
whether there is a sticking throttle plate. When in cruise control,
does the engine surge on hills? If it does, the throttle plate is
sticking due to being gummed up. I suggest pulling the throttle
body and going through it well. Most of your idle-only issues
revolve around the throttle body and its associated components, the
throttle butterfly, the IAC, and the throttle position sensor. Any
one of these could be your issue. There is also a secondary air
passage in the throttle body that is always open with no controls,
it could have crud in it, which will throw off the mixture at idle.–

Thanks for the info. I cleaned the TB less then half a year ago, I
changed the spark plugs two months ago, I glued the cracks on the
coils(5 of them have cracks). Since winter(when I had three limp
modes on the trans) only ones it had a blink on the MIL(which I
suspect that is a coil), and now I had these two stops in two days
in the same spot exiting from the freeway.

I know this is an old post, but I’m looking at something similar, if not the same, and it’s tricky to find many threads; my '98 XJ8 stalls not at the stop light off the exit ramp, but on the freeway when the cruise control turns off. I don’t notice the stall until I try to apply the accelerator again, and find there’s no power, which initially I didn’t notice until I came to the stop, but now that I’m paying closer attention, I see it’s just when the speed control comes off. Ever find a solution to your issue?

Woodeye, I don’t think your problem is similar. Think you should probably start a new thread. With that said check your lines to your cruise control. I’m not familiar with the X308’s, so I don’t know exactly how they operate. But generally speaking for any other car, I’d start by checking vacuum lines and then the cruise unit itself. Sounds like something isn’t kicking out properly when you disengage.
