i’m going to change the fluid of differential. How can I do this?
It’s an easy job? What kind of fluid can I use and do I need to put
some type of additive?
My best regards,

I changed my differential oil a couple years ago and don’t recall anything
unusual about the job. Drain hole at the bottom, filler hole about 2/3 of
the way up on the back of the diff. Before draining the old oil make sure
you can remove the filler plug…just in case it is stuck ! Clean road
dirt away from the filler hole before adding oil.
I used standard 80/90 weight gear oil…Shell, Valvoline, whatever name
brand strikes your fancy is OK. There are synthetics out there, too.
If you have a limited slip differential you’ll need a friction modifier. I
use GM stuff…part number 1052358. My understanding is that the Ford stuff
is exactly the same…no confirmation of that, though. Not sure what would
be available in Portugal.
The labeling on some of the synthetic gear oils claim that
additives/friction modifiers are not needed if used with limited slip.

Thanks Doug. My one do not have limited slip differential.
About the new plugs, i’m going to change it because it have some
years old, so if I put a new one, it’s always a new part. I need
also to clean my differencial, because it have many oil arround
(maybe a leak?)

Miguel,
Check the oil specifications.
Many of the oils in the US at least have the friction
modifiers already added.
I used a mixture of Valvoline 85-140 synthetic blend and
Mobil 75-90 synthetic. The car has 123k mi and operates in a
sometimes hot climate.
I did notice some slight weeping around the differential but
this seems to be normal. No drips on the driveway!–
