Hi, I’ve recently purchased a lovely 1998 XJ8 4.0 Auto. The car is
perfcet, been fully serviced by jag and runs silently, just like
new. Only thing, I am sometimes getting a ‘‘High Gearbox
Temperature’’ warning on the dash readout. It tends to happen after
driving the car for over 40mins, then leaving it parked for 10 mins
or so, and then driving it again. The warning usually goes away
after the car has been driven a bit. It came on the other day while
driving on the motorway at 70mph and stayed on till I parked the
car for half an hour. It didnt come back on again the rest of the
drive…a further 4 hours on teh motorway, and appart from for 10
seconds while driving around town the other day it hasnt appeared
since?
Is this something I need to get Jaguar to look at ASAP or should I
just keep my eye on it and see if it comes on more frequently
before having it checked out. The Jaguar Dealer wants 250.00 just
to look at it and check the fluid level…any ideas guys??? The
manual says the gearbox is a sealed unit and the level cant be
checked, but jaguar say it can be topped up, and the level can be
checked but only by them and its a difficult and expensive
job…what a stupid gearbox design!
Any help greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Alastair.–
