[x300] huge dilemma! give up X300 for 04' X350

getting my snow wheels on the car chatted with sales person.
giving me a great deal on X350.
I have an 97 VDP which is in excellent shape the interior is new
only sign of wear is the drivers seat with 260k km’s
virtually trouble free, owned it since 43k kms.ave some ‘chain
noise’ on start up which concerns me but other than that it is like
the day I bought it.
will I get the reliability in the X350 that I have in the X300?
now that the X350 is 4 years old any thing to be aware of.
or should I just keep the X300 and wait for a ‘Portfolio’ to be
$30K.
your opinions are appreciated.–

Brian Caro just did this - well he didn’t dispose of his X300, but did step
into an X350. He may be able to tell you about all of the things to look
for. We hve not had many threads relative to the X350 on this list yet.
Considering that this list gets to hear more of the bad than it does the
good, this should be a good sign. I think you should step up to an X350 if
you feel you need a change. You’ll get to your destinations in style either
way. I think you have another 260,000km in the car you have, the question
is do you want your butt to sit there for that long.

I just added an X350 to the stable. I went to Carfax.com to check
ownership costs and accident/mileage records. I then got a
subscription to Alldata.com for the car and read all the Technical
Service Bulletins and recalls since it was built. I also perused
the maintenance section to see how complex it was to maintain. If
you know all this, you can make a well informed decision. From what
I found, the cars are expensive to own due to, among other things,
depreciation and very high repair costs (try telling your insurance
agent you dinged the aluminum space frame that can only be repaired
in a few places), but have few serious issues
mechanically/electrically. Carfax links you to a number of sites
such as JD Powers that can tell you all about owning the car.–

In one of many (hundreds?) of car magazines I have strewn about one editor
wrote “No matter where you’re going a Jaguar is always the right car to
arrive in.”

I wish my life were set about with this kind of huge dilemma!
Gregory Andrachuck has also just gone X350 I believe. The big
attraction in the UK is the 3.0L model and the fact we can have a
diesel too. Both give excellent mileage with little if any giveawy
in real-world daily driver performance.–

Peter,
Big cars like the Jaguar XJ6 are heavily taxed here in Holland.
If one goes for diesel engines, even LPG, there is an extra tax on top of it.
So I am afraid the diesel powered XJ’s will be rare with a Dutch license plate.

I also plan to upgrade to an 05 x350 having really enjoyed our 96
x300. However at 203 kilometers its time for it to go. Read up the
buyers guide in february issue of Jaguar World magazine and it
seems that there are few problems as yet. The only outstanding
thing was the ZF Trans had a few issues on the 04 model, but would
never buy the first year of a new model. Also the air suspension
suffered from a failed air line on occasion causing the car to drop
to its lowest height settings. All in all the car car seems a great
buy. Plan to buy in the US and bring it back to Canada, big price
difference.–
