Does anyone know for sure? And if I have to have a code #,
where do I find out what it is and how do I input it?

Paul:
When I added my cd unit on my XJ6, I certainly did not install any
codes. I cannot say that I did not cycle the main power, but I do
not remember for sure. And I know of no code requirement for US
XJ6 radios… I don’t know about premium sound.–

I don’t think there are any special codes to enable the CD
changer at the head unit, certainly not anyway on my '97.

I would verify the cable connection at the back of the radio
to ensure it’s connected properly and check the exposed
portions of the cable for damage. The symptoms you see at
the head unit indicate the unit does not ‘‘see’’ the changer,
possibly from a bad cable, connection or damaged electrics
in the changer.

The cable from the head unit supplies constant power to the
changer so the failure to eject is suggestive of a problem
with the changer.

Until you’ve got the magazine properly ejecting, I’d not
chase down other symptoms.

Despite the opinions of some posters here, Jaguar/Alpine did
change the MBus to create a Jaguar unique set of units
sometime during the X300 years. (Probably to prevent dealers
from installing Alpine branded changers at a Jaguar premium)
The changer from my '91 required an adapter to work with my
'97 radio. But, even without the adapter, the power to the
changer was correct.

I don’t suppose you know anyone locally that has a '91 to
'94 XJ40 that you could test the changer on?–

The seller assured me the player worked O.K… However, the only
thing I can get to happen is the little green light on the
cartridge (?) to flash like 3 times when the button on it is
pushed. The cartridge magazine does not ‘‘partially eject’’ like it
is supposed to when the button is pushed, nor can I get any c.d.-
related stuff to come up on the readout on the radio/tape display.
Someone posted some time back on here that when a factory c.d.
player is installed for the first time, a factory code # has to be
inputted into the system somehow to get it to work, similar to the
security code # when the battery is disconnected from the car.
