[x300] Ineterior light glitch

I’ve got a small electrical glitch with the interior lights
on my 2003 XJR. When I come home at night, I park in our
garage. I never lock the car in our garage. I do close the
doors/boot.

Lately, I’ve noticed a couple of times the next morning,
that the interior lights are still on. When I lock the car
the lights turn off.

I’ve tested the interior lights multiple times. When you
leave the car, close the doors, the interior lights are
supposed to turn off after about 15 seconds. And they do.

The very simple practical solution is of course to lock my
car, even when it’s parked in my garage or wait for 15
seconds to check the interior lights go off. I don’t like
either. This morning again, lights were on when I got into
my Car. Call me a perfectionist, but everything on my car
just has to work as it should. and I’l happily fiddle with
it until it does.

So this little problem seems intermittent at best. Any
thoughts? Anybody ever experienced anything similar?

Are we talking about an X308 here ?

Odd… is that if you leave a door open the roof lights would go
off after 2 mins anyway.

I assume you haven’t noticed any door open messages while driving
so I guess those two would rule out a troublesome door switch.

However the next time it happens, look through the window at all
the doors and see if you can notice one of the red kerb lights,
lighting up the seats.

When you lock the car the lights should fade out straight away
(unless one of the front doors fails to lock)–

In addition to Andy’s comments, check the rear courtesy lights.
When cleaning the inside of the car, they are easily knocked into
the ‘on’ position. It’s happened to me quite often.–

Sometimes a foot can fly up there and do that as well.

Only if the J-gate is accidentally knocked into ‘D’

By the way, ‘‘cleaning the interior’’ was a euphemism:-)>–

Thanks for the replies;

indeed it is an X308.
No Open door messages.
No switches knocked into the ‘on’ position due to cleaning or
by any feet. (or any other human parts being thrown around for
that matter)
