[x300] Key and Remote....... How much? Dealer only?

I had just brought the beast (99 XJR UK) from a test drive after
fitting new front disks and pads (99 bargain), Walked in the house
the good lady said ‘‘before you take you shoes off bring the other
car into the drive for me will you please darling.’’

Job done, big grin, now no faults on the car at all (apart from the
cup holder saga, see previous)

Next day ‘‘darling have you got the car keys’’
‘‘By the fridge’’
‘’…no’’

Then the hunt begins… trousers (pants for you colonial types)
office, break fast bar etc. Long story cut.

Are remotes and keys, Jag only parts and how much will I have to
pay??

Thanks G–

About the remote you can buy one on eBay. But the keys…i think
that it’s only possible in Jaguar dealer because you have to
connect the key with the car.

Have you got 1 set 9Key and remote). If you have, you get can get
a remote easily enough from Ebay. On the back cover of the remote,
you will see a part number, make sure you get one with the same
number otherwise it won’t work with your car. Although all the
remotes work on the same frequency there are, at least, 3 different
part numbers. Once you get one, the programming instructions are
in the archives.

If you have a key, take a look at this site;

What a great site Gary. I do not have this problem, but it’s very
nice to know something more about our Jags.

Re Remote and Keys
Neither of the remotes for my '04 XJ8 VDP has a part number
on any part of the device. One needs a new battery, I
think. How do I determine which remote I have?–

Bobjax,

I haven’t looked at an X350 remote so, can’t offer an opinion other
than to say that the part number 9on an X308 remote) is on the back
cover of the fob. It’s stamped on but, the font is very small.
However, if you just need a new battery, you won’t need the part
number.–

Makes the ones on ebay very cheap then…if you really need one.
Remember though as Gary said to make sure they are compatible by
matching the numbers on the fob.PS What’s the labour for?–

You will find that the labour is to program the new key and the
remote fob to the computer in the car, done by the dealer via his
computer system supplied by Jaguar. This needs to be done otherwise
all remote fobs would work on all cars.I obtained a second hand
remote, replaced the battery in it and had it programmed into the
car via the dealer. cost just over 30.–

Kit,

If only you’d have looked in the archives first. You could have
programmed the fob yourself then, donated 15 to Jag-lovers. That
way, both you and Jag-lovers would have benefitted:-)>–

Kit,

Whatever problem that may arise with your car another lister has,
probably, had it happen to theirs. Always, always, before visiting
a repairer, check out the archives first. The collective knowledge
of list members is infinitely more than that of any repairer, be
they independent or main dealer, could ever have.

Good luck and happy Jaguar driving.–
