[x300] key question

just bought a 96 xj6, the key will not turn in the door lock to
lock,only turns to unlock…have both original keys, and neither
works…is it the lock or are the keys just worn out…thanx,ERIK–

I found out the hard way that you do not need the specific key to
LOCK the door. ie, you can lock the door with your xj6 key while
your Xj8 key is inside!
So, I don’t think the wear is the problem.–

lack of use then it might give you a clue on the key wear issue.

I haven’t tried it with X300’s but definately XJ40 locks would
accept any key to lock the car but not to unlock, can be risky as
said!

Still, that is the other way around from your problem and if those
keys operate the steering lock and ignition they should be the
right ones. Use of key fob lock/unlocking is convenient but it does
not help to keep locks maintained by use.–
