There is a procedure in the JTIS.
On my XJ8 I tightened the cable to just loose using the nut
on the outer cable. Then turn on the ignition for 10 secs
while it runs a diagnostic or whatever. Switch off and then
start the motor.
The question is though how did it get loose in the first
place?–

I will have to take a look when I get back in town. I am
downloading the JTIS now for the procedure.
The pedal always had some play before it actually starts opening
the throttle. It was like that when I purchased it, so who knows
what could have happened.
I noticed it when I sat in someone elses XJ6 and there was no play
in the pedal. That is what started my investigation. Now if feel
like it broken unless I fix it. :>

Ok, I feel a bit abashed about the solution to this. But, I
figured it out. I had to laugh at myself a little bit,
because I just swapped out the supercharger and could not
figure this out for so long.
Anyway to adjust the pedal play to the throttle body, there
is a device near the top of the engine in the throttle body
cable. its a long star shaped plastic thing in the throttle
cable. Well, all that needs to be done is to slip one end
down to reveal the threads inside and twist until your
desired tension is set.
Its a very cool little device when you know to look for it.
Just thought I would share if anyone could not figure it
out for as long as myself. :>
