Some time ago I posted a message regarding my problem with rough
(totally undriveable) running. I used a scanner and this showed 2
main faults.
Fault 1. TP (mechanical) Circuit Malfunction.
Fault 2. P0346 Camshaft position Sensor Circuit Malfunction
I removed and cleaned out the throttle body and using a multi-meter
checked the potentiometer for resistance and this showed a good
smooth action. Not able to confirm the actual resistances were
correct as I do not have the specification for this unit. Anyone
help with this? Today I refitted the throttle body and at least the
car now starts and ticks over fairly evenly. When she is stone cold
I can use the accelerator to some effect but still has plenty of
misfire. Once warm however tick over remains steady but ANY
movement of the throttle results in misfire and cutting out i.e.
still undriveable. I cleared the original fault codes before
starting this remedial process. No MIL light showing now although I
did connect up to my PC to be sure but no faults are recorded.
Clutching at straws I then change the Camshaft sensor as this had
been originally indicated as a fault. Result was as I expected no
difference. So here I am wondering what the hell to do next and
wondering if someone out there in Cyberspace could help me. Hope So!

Your symptoms do mimic a bad TP sensor (open throttle plate but no
fuel, so the engine dies lean). I assume you have a wiring diagram,
so the tests with ignition on are that you need to find 5v. at pin
PL118/003 and 0v. at pin PL118/001. Connect a meter across pins 1&2
of the sensor and move the wiper. The meter should show a smooth
transition. The TP is self adjusting, so if you replace it, just
put the new one back like the old one came out. If you have the Jag
CD form JDHT, it has the entire diagnostic procedure for you to
follow, which is too long for me to type out here. If I had to
guess, I think there is something wrong with the harness to the TP
sensor, but it’s only a guess. This part hangs near the oil filter,
and a ham-fisted oil changer could have damaged the harness.–

Just had another idea, if you have a vacuum guage, connect it to
the intake manifold somewhere and follow the directions to detect a
blocked exhaust. This will check to see if you have a blockage in
there somewhere. Has someone put potatoes in your tailpipes?–

Brian,
Thanks for reply. Will try another Throttle Body as I also have a
Daimler Six same year as it does seem to have improved since I
removed and cleaned it. Big problem though is why is it that it now
starts and drived fine for a while untill it warms uo then will not
pick up at all just coughs and spluters. Surely this must be some
other problem?
Regards
Dave
PS no spuds (potatoes) up the exhaust though nice thought!–

Dave,
Sometimes a dirty/stuck EGR valve causes same symptom. Mine was
actually stuck partially open. In the US there was a recall on them some
years back. Look in the archives. I took mine apart cleaned it. The shaft
of the valve was extremely dirty and actually had to chip off residues and
used a cleaner to dissolve the rest.

dave it sounds like a bad crank shaft sensor. replace it. pajtas–
