[x300] Putting an X300 CD changer into an X350?

Okay, I didn’t realize it but our ‘‘new’’ 2005 X350L does not
have a CD changer (I was assuming they put it someplace other
than the trunk). As I look through the sound system manual,
it looks like the changer in the drawings is just like the
player in my X300 (Jaguar branded Alpine). Has anyone put an
X300 changer into an X350? Since we are retiring the X300, it
would be nice to be able to just plug it right into the X350
rather than having to go out and buy one (of course, it has a
single slot player in front so we can live with it. But it
woud be nice to have a changer.–

Gordon,

I doubt this is ‘dooable’ within reason. I’m just writing an X350
obesrvations page for general release and will put the CD player
entry here below, so it may make it clear how the entire system
works. It is not simple, all of the units are networked and how
you’d get another player to join that network is something to
ponder, unless you plugged it into the head unit as some kinf of
auxiliary device as you would with an Ipod or similar.---------------------------------------------------------------

'Sound System Head Unit - Apparently Working, but no Sound?

Like your computer, the X350 Sound system units are linked together
in a Network Ring. This ring can be broken by one unit being
inoperative. For instance, if the CD player fuse is blown as
happened on my car, no sound will come out of the speakers from any
source, even the radio. To quickly check the CD is working, see if
the magazine will eject. If not, Fuse 27 in the boot fusebox may be
blown.

Other sound items can naturally break the network ring if
inoperative.’

All in all it may be simpler to get an original 350 CD player and
the correct extension loom. If the system allows it to join the
network you’ll be OK.

Regards

Steve

Gordon,
I had to add a changer when I got mine. It will also require an
additional harness. I had the dealer install it.

Dang. I was hoping the plug would be the same and it would be
a quick plug and play. Apparently they took a lesson from the
computer industry.

So, if I get one specifically for the X350 is it going to
recognize it, or because the car wasn’t originally fitted with
it, that network ring would ‘‘break’’ when you try to plug
something in it?

Thanks for the info. Good thing it has a player in the head
unit. Also means if we live with it, I get the extra headroom
on that side of the trunk… :)–

The player is mounted in a cubby hole on the left side of the
trunk. Won’t loose anything.

I found it by accident yesterday. I thought the unit was
mounted at the top of the trunk like it was in my 97, but I
saw the little door and found it inside. The disk cassettes
are the same as the '97, so I was able to just pull one loaded
with disks out of my 97 and pop them into the '05. Cool!–
