[x300] Questions about the XJR's (x300 versus x308)

It would seem so, eh? LOL!–

JaguarSean,
Are you becoming an XJRengineer groupie? Only joking.

know what the redline of the AJ-v8 is versus the AJ16? i’m
guessing that the AJ-v8’s is higher since it makes so much
NA power for an engine of it’s displacement (the 4.4 BMW
only makes ~280 remember)–

I’ve only just spotted this post. Very interesting stuff from
Andy…

I say this because I’m in the very early stage of fitting an Opcon
Autorotor 2.2. twin screw supercharger to my XJR V8. I have the
supercharger and now am at the fabrication stage where I need to
get custom inlet and outlet plates made plus brackets to bolt the
thing in place.

As for tuning, I don’t have any ideas about how to alter the timing
but, as for the fuelling, I have a wideband sensor and intend
modifying the MAF sensor output to suit.

I’m shooting for around 480-500 bhp.

Does anyone have any information on anyone else who has undertaken
such a job? I know that AJ6 engineering are working on such a
conversion. I see that this person -
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/1030692 - is claiming that he’s has
this s/c fitted but, some things don’t appear to ring true. For
example, I can’t see how a dealer could simply take the car for a
week or so and just plonk one in with ‘no other modifications’.
The fabrication involved looks to me to be substantial.

Any suggestions about where I might go to get the fabrication done
(I live in SW UK)?

Cheers.

Alan:

This guy is full of it, and nothing that he said can be believed:

1/heated/cooled seats
not true,only heated

2/Adaptive cruise control
not true, only on the XK8

3/12 speakers alpine
Not true,only 9 including the sub-woofer

4/stock 420HP at the wheels
Sure… more like 300

And the big one… Jaguar fitting under warranty a totaly
different supercharger that produce 500hp at the rear wheels!!!

Beside the fact that ANY modification to an engine that has an
inpact on emissions need to be tested/approved and certified by the
EPA/CARB in the USA before being able to be sold,no manufacturer
will ever increase the horsepower of a car by over 60% (rear wheel
300hp to over 500) without major modifications (cooling,
driveline, etc,) to the car other systems.

Good luck. It’s nice to see that I’m not the only owner considering
such upgrades. As you suggest, AJ6 Engineering/AJ6 Supercharging
are probably the best company to talk to. Dennis priddle, who does
the SC conversions is based in SW England, Yoevill I think. I’d
love to see your car when it is finished, maybe at Woodbridge Speed
trial?–

That would be cool if the adapters and brackets could be
sold as a kit for the X308’s. I would definately buy one
(once I gat a car that is)

I do have to say I’m really impressed at the amount of DIY
performance stuff I’m seeing here in the Jaguar community.
It’s much better than for the other cars I’ve been looking
at, like the Infiniti M45 community (who were like, uh,
nobody makes a kit and noone will) or the BMW 540i people
who at most put on those silly little centrifugal blowers.

Right now I just need to save my pennies for an X308 XJR,
and convince my parents that it’s a better buy than a 01-02
volvo s60 or v70 t5 which are on the same general price point.

I’m pretty interested in that screw-type blower you
mentioned. The one I had thought might work before was the
Kenne Bell ‘‘blowzilla’’ replacement for the ford SVT
lightning pickup truck, which iirc uses the same stock
blower as the XJR.–
