[x300] Radio frozen- 97 XJR

Hi All,

I just started my car after a 6 month storage. It had been on
a ‘‘Battery Tender’’.

The radio is frozen. At fist it would not come on. I pressed
all of the radio buttons and it finally came on. It
functioned for a few minutes and then it froze with a CD from
the rear canister playing. I can not get any function to work
now.

How is this corrected?

Thanks,

Sorry, I don’t have a fix for you, but I have it happen all
the time in one of my cars now, and it was a common problem
in another X300 I used to own. I THINK it has something to
do with aging solder joints on some board somewhere cracking.

The problem does seem to come and go with the weather. It
will work for a while with no problems, then the weather
gets colder (or hotter) and suddenly it’s stuck all the time.

Don’t know why, but sometimes if I hold the eject button
down for a few seconds, then release it and quickly press a
station preset button after a half beat or so, that
sometimes frees it up. I may do that five or six times in a
row, and usually it works eventually (although admittedly
sometimes it has no effect at all and I have to try again
later.)

It is annoying as hell though. Best advice is when it’s
working, make sure you don’t turn the engine off with the
radio turned up too loud. If you do, next time you get back
in the car it may be stuck and blaring.–

I tried a few things:

I pulled fuse #10 in the trunk fuse box. It did nothing. I
then pulled fuse #10 againbut this time with the key in the
power on position. This worked and the radio seems to be fine
for now.

I have an USA car that does not require a security code for
the radio. European models need to have a security code, be
sure to have that code if you try this.

I hope this repair lasts. If not I will swap the radio out
for a modern din type and buy the adaptor kit from ebay/uk.

Best,

The radio buttons ar multiplexed- That means that if any one
is ‘‘stuck’’ on, then none will work. If, for instance, you were to
be sitting in your driveway (obviously not driving the car!) and
were admiring it with a glass of chardonnay, and you were to spill
it into the buttons, this effect might happen. Not that I know…–
