I doubt you need to replace the springs.

My '97 has always looked low in the front to me so when I
was replacing the bushings and ball joints last weekend, I
thought I’d look into the springs.

Comparing my '93 to my '97, I noticed a difference in the
spring seats and when I got the '97 apart, found there was
only 1 1.5mm spring locater on each side while my '93 had 2
4.5 mm seats on each side.

I pulled a set of springs from a '94 in a breakers yard
along with the 4 4.5 seats.

Compared to my '97, the springs seem identical, same wire
diameter, overall diameter, number of active coils and free
length. So I simply installed the pair of 4.5mm seats with
the original springs. Amazing difference in the height of
the front of the car. That additional 7.5mm at the springs
added over an inch at the wheel arch to tire.

Seat part numbers are CAC98221 for the XJ40’s and MNA2161BA
for the X300. About $11.00 each retail. I’m currently
waiting on a set from one of our big name suppliers, not
sure how long they’ll take so that’s why I tried the
breakers yard.

The car sits quite level, perhaps even now looking a bit low
in the rear. (Probably from deteriorating rear spring
isolators)–
