I may have missed it, but it does help if you say which year
& model you are querying!

Also the Archives are full of information on this and are a
very good place to start in solving problems swiftly, as is
the JTIS.–

My mistake, my Jag is a 1997 XJR, all fuses are good.–

Ok, I’ve gotten the full story. I had the hood repainted at the
local Body Shop. I had left the drivers window open and locked the
car when I left. They set the alarm off by opening the car with the
latch instead of the fob. After turning the alarm off they raised
the window with the master lock switch on the dash. Evidently the
battery went down while it was at the shop. They also replaced the
drivers outer door handle. Since I’ve gotten it back the drivers
window will not go up or down, the steering column is inop, I’ve
lost power to operate the seats, and teh memory feature to program
the switches appears inop. All fuses are good. Any advice would be
appreciated as there are not any good Jaguar technicians available
locally. I am a factory trained mechanic but through different line
(Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, Toyota) but became a manager 15 years ago
so am a bit out of practice. I love working on and restoring
British cars, and have restored a Triumph, and a two Jags but htis
has me stumped.–

Do a hard reset by disconnecting the battery for 10 mins or so,
then reconnect it. That often cures such problems.

Good Luck

The hard reset suggested by Steve is a good idea. It fixes
many a security system related problem. I know you said you
checked all the fuses, but fuses or a relay was my very
first idea. You do know there are 5 separate fuse panels,
right? I would suspect one in the fuse panel behind the
left, rear heel board.

If they had the inner driver’s door panel off to replace the
exterior handle, could they have left the wires to the
window and/or memory controls unattached or poorly attached?
The various computers do not like it when something is
disconnected.

Good luck.–

Sorry to hear about your troubles but is there a reason why you don’t
just take it back to the ‘repairers’ and get them to fix the
outstanding issues?

Just wonderin’!

If it’s an X308 I’ve found the security system gets well confused
if the door processor or locks are disconnected, especially if this
was done with the battery still connected. You can even end up with
windows going down instead of up!

Think of a Computer and it’s network, much the same. A hard reset
normally fixes things in the same way a computer will re-install a
disconnected device when re-booted. General repairers, especially
bodyworkers won’t have a clue, nor can we expect them to know the
tricks for each make/model.

Can’t rule out bad connections within the door though…

Thank you for all your suggestions, my jag is a 97 XJR, I have
tried a hard reset by disconnecting the negative first for an hour
and then with the positve and neither had an effect, I will open
the door panel and make sure everything is connected this weekend.
if you have any other advice please post and I will try them all.
Thank you–

1997 is the changeover year for X300 and X308 whether it’s an XJR
or not, so it could be either have the earlier straight 6 or the
later V8 engine. Both are vastly different cars electrically and
electronically, so it would help if you let us know.

I just realized that I disconnected the connectors to the drivers
door panel and drove my 97 XJR X300 to the body shop, the window,
seats, mirrors, and memmory problems started after that. Thank you
for all your suggestions to reset my cat back to normal, I have
been trying them all. Sorry about the reposts on similar issues but
I am desperate for a fix.–

Well…I opened the door panel and all were reconnected by the body
shop when they put the door back together…so I am again back at
square 1. I tried removing the negative cable for a system reboot
but no avail, the seats, mirrors, steering colum, and drivers
window remain inop! :(–
