[x300] Will a '97 XJ-6 transmission fit a '98 XJ-8?

Hello all
I have a friend with a 98 XJ-8 whose transmission went out. It
was like a light bulb, worked one day and the next did
absolutely nothing. I have a 97 XJ-6 I’m parting out (body has
too much rust), and I was wondering if that transmission would
fit my friends 98 XJ-8. TIA.

Joel,
The short answer is NO
They are two differant transmissions.
As your friend has probably just blown the A drum
AND the amount of work to R&R it
I would recomend having it repaired with the uprated drum.

Thank you for your response. My ignorance regarding automatic
transmissions embarrasses me. Is the A drum like a torque
converter? Will the shop doing the work know enough to upgrade
to the better A drum, or will it have to be requested? TIA.

Joel,
Yes any quality shop will know about the A-drum.
Call around your area and ask differant trans shops if the have
done these tranny’s or not. Once you find a good one it would be
worth your time to have him check the car over and verify thats the
problem ! First !
