[x300] Wiring (Sunroof Panel Switch)

I need the wiring diagram for the panel in the middle of the windshield on the headliner which has the sunroof switch, garage opener, & the interior lights plus the sunglasses container. There is a black plugin on the right side of the panel. I need to know the “+” and “-” for the wires & what each wire is for.

I think the wiring would be the same for 1995- 2003 XJ6/8.

Any help much appreciated!

I took a look into the wiring diagrams for the above, but
it’s complicated, with a single diagram for each component.
These diagrams can be a little bit confusing in isolation,
but when you have to visualise a sort of ‘‘overlay’’ to take
in all the components, it gets crazy!

The best that I can suggest is to try using a simple circuit
tester/multimeter. With this you can check for live inputs
and for earths/grounds, so that you can easily identify
feeds and returns.

Do you have a specific issue you are trying to resolve? Any
more details may help. In the meanwhile I’ll look at my
donor car and see what I can find, as looking at ‘‘the real
thing’’ always makes more sense to me than looking at wiring
diagrams.–

Hi again. I took a look see at my donor car (my daily driver
doesn’t have a sunroof!) and by torchlight, I managed to
ascertain a few things.

Firstly, just so that we are singing from the same hymn
sheet, the black connector on mine has 8 wires in total, in
two rows of four. Depending upon how you look at it, the
colour coding would be as follows, assuming you’re looking
into the open end of the connector, with the BLACK wire in
the top left hand corner.

So, on the top,it’s BLACK, RED/GREY, GREEN/RED, WHITE/BROWN

then below, BROWN/WHITE, RED/WHITE.ORANGE/GREEN,ORANGE/WHITE

Some of the colours are hard to distinguish, especially by
torchlight, but these are close!

I don’t have any power going to the connector, but I could
identify the earths, of which there were two. BLACK and
RED/WHITE.

According to the wiring diagram I could only identify two
live feeds, which were described as GR which is power in to
the Map Lights and RLG which is power in to the Interior Lights.

Maybe this helps, but it’s a minefield. For what it’s worth,
my donor car is a 97 Sovereign with European Spec.

As mentioned, any further details of what you’re trying to
do might help.–

I’m not sure sure. I got an overhead console from a 98 to get the
rolling code garage door opener (GDO) buttons for my 95… Opened
it all up, and the ribbon cable to the GDO module is different.

Simple enough, just plug the 98 console into the 95. Hmmm, the
interior lights come on with the door closed, off with the door
open. Not exactly what I was looking for - BUT! The GDO buttons
works.–

This post is quite old, but I solved the interchangeability problem of interior lighting when using an X308 module in a X300 if the solution will be helpful to anyone. I posted this on the Jaguarforums site a while back. It works.
