[x300] X308 Power Fold Auto Dim Mirrors

I guess that I am finally ready to tackle the final up grade
to power fold mirrors…I will need the mirror housings, the
wiring loom that is in the housings, and an auto dim
lens…I believe that the master window switches for the
exterior mirrors will work on my 2002 XJ8 Vanden Plas, with
some added relays… It has been a real problem trying to
get a reasonable price on these items here, many sellers are
not willing to send these items to America…Can anyone who
may have this equipment, who is willing to sell it at a
reasonable price, contact me off site?? I know that Gary was
holding some parts for Jack a while back…maybe I can get
in on the abandoned ‘‘boot sale’’ items??? The dimming lens
can be good used, and maybe I will need to buy all of this
in stages depending on the cost…I am willing to locate
parts here for members who have problems buying items from
America. Brandon–

Whoops!

Nearly/probably a breach of rules (advertising) or am I
starting to sound like Gary, who keeps alluding to the items
stored in his garage?–

Brandon,

Although Jack has paid for the mirrors that I got for him, he
hasn’t paid for the 18+ months of storage in my garage. If he
doesn’t cough up the dough soon, we may be able to do a deal:-)> I
do have a spare set but, would like to keep them just in case so,
I’ll keep my eyes open for a reasonably priced pair for you. In
the meantime, if you come across some, here in the UK, and the
seller is unwilling to ship them to you, by all means have them
delivered to my address and I will then forward them to you. The
dimming lenses are quite hard to get hold of and, when they do come
up, pretty expensive c 40+ each.

I’ll contact you if I find anything.–

No sweat Brandon. Neil was probably refering to the fact
that ‘wanted’ ads are just as frowned-on as ‘for sale’ ads
and both should go onto the free listing provided for them
so we don’t clutter up the forum.

However, this is generally a good forum and in any case I’m
sure Mark Stephenson who is the Admin here would take past
behaviour into account. Of course this means that should
‘Last Chance Breyer’ make one false move, he’d be sentenced
to a haircut…And you’d hear the screams in Ventura CA.

If you’ve ever seen the painting The Scream by Edvard Munch, it
could be a picture of me after my last haircut. I’d rather have

Now, about this advertising business. I’ve seen posts here such
as, ‘‘I want to convert my XJR6 to manual transmission’’ and, a
poster, no names but you know who you are, reply ‘‘I have all the
parts you need, I’ll contact you off list.’’

If anyone is looking for some very long (20’'+) grey hair, I have
plenty available. Contact me off list:-)>–

I saw the post and was debating whether I should comment, and probably
should have. Peter, and admin of repute on a couple other lists, is correct
about the rule and the reasoning behind it, especially given the rise in
list volume over the past couple years. I will allow requests on the list
when we’re dealing with something that is nearly unavailable.

Right, so it’s open season on the sale and purchase of Breyer’s
silver locks then…

Ideal for a worn X300 seat bolster that needs a bit more stuffing.
Warning, the seat may curse like a taxi driver if cyclists cut in
front or a despatch rider clips your door mirror in traffic. Twenty
pounds, do I hear twenty pounds? Twenty, thank you, twenty five -
it’s with you sir at the back of the room at twenty five. Thirty,

Peter, there is one other caveat that you omitted and that is,
beautiful women will want to run their fingers through it:-)> And
yes, I do offer a money back guarantee. On one occasion, I was

heard me from underneath the cab:-)>

I do find Mark’s reply quite intriguing, that is his
comment; ‘‘Peter and other admin of repute on a couple of other
lists.’’ This implies that there must be another admin named Peter,
he couldn’t possibly be talking about you and, not all list admin
are of good repute:-)>–

Again, I’m sorry about posting in the wrong place about the
mirrors, they don’t exist here in the states, no parts
available at the dealer, they are considered grey market
parts by our dealers, and they have no info about the parts,
wiring, or compatability…moreover, many UK sellers won’t
ship to the states. I would have posted on the buy/sell
forum, but I forgot that it existed, I usually just monitor
the info forums. I do agree that was posted in the wrong
place, won’t happen again…Brandon–

More importantly we have parking spaces that aren’t .95 times the width of
the car. :-P> Ours are more like 1.2 times the car width. We also don’t have
the traffic calming pylons that you seem to like so much.

I’m sure that the powerfolds were available but probably not affixed to many
since they aren’t really needed.

I want the powerfolds that Gary is holding for me for the mirror glass not
really for the power action. I will only fold them about once every three
years just to see if they still work. I don’t like the “objects in mirror
are closer than they appear” passenger mirrors that we have.

100 yards is kind of wide but Salt Lake City has streets that were designed
to be wide enough for a wagon team to turn around without “resorting to
profanity,” that was determined to be 132 feet.

Cheers,
Jack - '99 XJ8L PA USA

Bu…bu…but Gary, it’s a GIZMO! They want everything with knobs on
don’t they. ‘Fully Loaded’ means the works I always thought. I knew
they didn’t have ultrasonic intrusion sensors and radio codes (na

a loss for them.

Yeah, pulled up in a parking lot there last week and every bay was
like the ones we have for parent and toddler. A legacy from the
land yacht days I suppose.

Anyway, suits me - I might have to stock up with powerfolds as well
as manual transmissions if we move over there.

'tis,

Oh, give me land, lots of land under starry skies above,
Don’t fence me in.
Let me ride through the wide open country that I love,
Don’t fence me in.
Let me be by myself in the evenin’ breeze,
And listen to the murmur of the cottonwood trees,
Send me off forever but I ask you please,
Don’t fence me in.

It’s true, I wanted a Daimler spec Vanden Plas, all of the
toys, BUT, I have problems driving at night, and can really
use the dimming lens feature… and some of the parking
garages here in Santa Barbara are narrow, and power folds
would make getting in and out easier… I tried at several
dealers, to order just the dimming lens, and wire it in
myself. The dealers have no listings for power fold mirrors
or dimming lenses, because, according to them, they were
never offered on an X300 or an X308 here in the
states…they tell me that they would need a valid Daimler
VIN just to look up part numbers…even so, ALL Daimler
options, badges and trim are considered grey market parts
and the dealers cannot, by law, import or sell these
items…I have spent 2 years rounding up emblems, wheel
caps, B pillar emblems, Grille badge, steering wheel badge,
console script, and the tool kit for under the bonnet, the
dealers told me that no tool kits for the 300-308 were ever
available here, then try to convince sellers in England to
ship to California!!! The DAIMLER MAJESTIC boot badges and
red growler boot release button were the hardest to find!!
America has stupid rules just to make life harder, just
because a wheel cap has a D instead of a growler, it must be
a threat to life and limb here…I can’t wait to move to
England in a couple of years…Brandon–

Have you tried ordering them from a dealer in the UK? Try a few and
see if they will ship overseas. Also try Ebay UK, I’ve bought lots
of Daimler things there. Even if the listing says they only ship to
the UK, send them a note and ask if they ship overseas. Most say
yes and I’ve never had a problem. Don’t bother with UPS or a
courier, I find the mail works very well, and at least 50% of the
time the package just comes right through with no duty or customs
fees.–
