[x300] XJ8 Intake maifold disassembly?

I had to replace the RH heater hose recently on the XJ8. I
pulled the new hose under the intake manifold using the old
one connected to it.

The LH hose will probably go sooner rather than later.

Do I have to remove the intake manifold completely along
with the injectors?

I’ve taken off the throttle body before so at least I am
familiar with that process.

Thanks in advance.–

Dear Dan,

I am only guessing, but I removed the thermostat housing on
my car (MY1998) recently and checked how the LH heater hose
is connected to the main coolant circulation system. I
thought it was impossible (well, never say impossible) to
have a good access to the hose end connected to the base of
the thermostat housing. I would say that you would have to
remove the intake manifold to gain access. You might want
to think about changing breather tube as well.

By the way, how your RH hose goes bad? The hose itself or
started leaking from the end to the coolant duct (not the
firewall side)?

Good luck!–

Dear Momo,

My thoughts exactly on approaching it from the thermostat
tower. Looks like no room though! I will have to bite the
bullet and take off the manifold.

The RH hose was leaking where it meets the aft metal tube
and at the Norma connector. I was unable to disconnect the
Norma connector and replaced it with a length of hose and a
connector spliced on to the medusa hose and metal tube.–

Dan, if you do this stuff maybe you could let us know how it went.
I broke my part load breather hose while removing the end for
cleaning (brittle plastic). I bought a new hose for not a lot of
money, but then when I looked where it went (or saw where it
disappeared) I figured I’d just wait a while and tape it for now.
I guess after almost 10 years I might as well replace the heater
hoses and the part load breather hose.–

James,

As described somewhere on this board, I tied the new part
load breather to the old and used the old to thread in the
new under the manifold. Did something similar for the RH
heater hose.

When the weather warms up I will be at it.–

Dear Dan,

Thank you very much for the info. I checked the both ends
of the RH side heater hose and it ‘‘seemed’’ they were OK, so
I didn’t touch them. OK, I will probably have to check the
Norma connector side one more time…–
