[xj] 1973 Jaguar XJ12 - el igible for free UK road tax?

In reply to a message from teddykan sent Tue 5 Aug 2008:

Are you a JEC member? They have a dedicated person who may be able
help with such ‘‘DVLA’’ matters. (Obviously as you know, it must
have been built prior to the 1st January 1973).

Hi Jamie,
No I’m not a JEC member. I guess I would need a Heritage
certificate for this car, based on its chassis number(s).

Can I still get such a certificate without JEC membership?

I also guess that as the car was registered mid-1973, it may well
have been still in the factory by 1 Jan 1973. However, I need proof
of this to qualify for free road tax.
Thanks,–

Yes, speak to the JDHT I am sure they can help, maybe they can help
without resorting to paying for a certificate?

Thanks Craig,
The JDHT site says ‘‘XJ12 Series I 5.3 litre l.w.b., RHD 2C/1310
on’’, it has to be 1310 or below. Mine is ‘‘2C 1546’’ and hence I’m
out.

Oh well, can’t have it then!

Don’t get me started on that ‘‘cherished car’’ road tax exemption
thing. It would quickly turn into a political rant then Peter would
go bonkers…
