[xj] 1986 XJ6 Rusted bad

I have a 1986 XJ6 III with 103k on that the body looks
good, engine runs good and transmission is fine but around
the floor pans is all rusted out. It would take a lot to fix
the underside of the car. Not sure what to do with the
kitty at this point. Is it time for the junk yard, not sure
what I should do at this point.–

zazoo,
Replacement floor pans are available. The old ones can be cut out,
and new ones cut as required and welded into place. If you inspect
the entire underside of the car, and list what is rusty and has
holes in it such as fenders, rocker panels, floor pans, front
valence, trunk floor, rear quarters and rear valence,I could look
at my receipts and provide a rough manhour estimate for the work by
a professional restoration shop (at least as it related to work on
my car).
My '86 just came out of the body shop, and it required a lot of
body panel repair. The shop I use provides a very detailed
accounting of the work that they perform.
Where are you located?

These are beautiful cars and you don’t want to send them off to an
ignoble burial. It sounds like at the best it could be a perfectly
good car that you could enjoy for years, and possibly at the worst
it would make an excellent parts car, but it doesn’t sound like a
candidate for the grave from your description.

don’t kill the kitty! Part her if you have to, save her if
you love her, just don’t smush her or I’ll have nightmares
and cry and all that girly stuff.

I am located in York, PA. The rust is on both sides of the
center console where it meets the floor pans and it runs
from the front to the rear in the passenger compartment. I
had it at two body shops and both recomended not to fix the
rust. I do not have the equipment to do this job myself and
I guess to pay someone it would be over 2k. Also some of
the paint on the body is bubbling at some places so that is
going to need work soon. I do not want to send it to the
grave yet but I am stuck on what to do. Not sure how to part
out the car if that is what I need to do and how much it
would be worth. I could use any encourging words.–
