[xj] 83 XJ6 Reset Oxygen Sensor Warning Light

I need to press the reset button for my O2 sensor light on the dash. I read
the archives, and there is a post from the good Dr. saying that the button
is white, and on the left side of the area behind the panel in the front of
the boot (just behind the seat back), and may need to be pressed with a pen.
I looked and looked, and I can’t see the button. If I remember correctly,
there are 4 components- from left to right, a small motor or relay, the
sunroof motor, a group of circuit boards, and the ECU. Which component has
the reset switch, and is it visible or tucked on the bottom or side
somewhere?

Thanks,

T. R. Dearden

T.R.-
On the far left item, the small motor with relay, there is a small white
button on the flat area. That’s it.

Open the boot and remove the rear back panel. On the left hand side you will
see a black box and the button will be right on it. Hold the button down
for a few seconds to make sure it did its job. Keep looking you will find
it.

The unit for the early cars was often mounted in the engine compartment
near the battery on LHD cars. We have had a recent notice that it was also
sometimes mounted on the transmission (a yellow device, apparently, although
I have never seen one). My 82 has none of these and the light on the dash is
a seat belt warning lamp! My 84 did have the 02 sensor lamp and the unit was
in the boot as described. If it is on your 83, what you describe as the
small motor or relay may be it. The button is on the top, and must be
pressed in with an impliment of some sort. Finger pressure won’t do it. If
your car is an early 83, it may be elsewhere.
